Armagedon survivor =If you miss meetings?? Did you have a choice??
by Witness 007 inawake april 2008 p.20 "what does god expect of you?
" "......the bible does not prescribe a set number of hours that we must reserve for worship each week.......does god expect us to live fanatically {is the answer yes!
} excluding all activeties from our live except worship?

I often wondered over the years about attending so many meetings each week. I could find no biblical reason for it. The much abused hebrews 10..24,25 doesnt give any backing. The hebrew christians were getting ready to flee Jerusalem waiting for its destruction so we can understand they would want to keep together. Once they fled Jerusalem we have no further knowledge of what happened to them.
I laugh at times when we are given pictures in the WT that show groups of people with their scrolls looking like they are at the kh for the wt meeting. People back then were poor, poor poor. Many were slaves, they couldnt just pop off for hours on end to meetings. Scrolls were for the rich, although the early christians did pioneer the copying of texts. We are told we need all those meetings to keep us strong spiritually, yet any time for real meditation is filled in with all the other stuff we are supposed to study.
I remember in March or April of last year the last meetings I went to there was a paragraph in Wt that said we should be prepared for meetings in the new system, by being faithful in attending now. SHIT, shit shit i mumbled to my husband....a 1000 years of meetings.! Forget it I am out of here. That was the last meeting I attended.

will i ever be able to move on (my daughter was abused)
by looloo ini feel real down at the moment at the injustice of it all , i know the world is full of injustice but it just makes me so mad , did anyone on here move on after their child was abused and if so how did you do it ?
i feel i cant move on till she has but at the moment that seems a long way off , bulimia and flashbacks seem to rule her life , the local congregation are not allowed to discuss it with me , even fellow victims mothers , probably because im worldly .
i have wrote a strongley worded letter to the elders regarding the fact that had they reported the local min servant perv to the police years ago my child would not be like this , and that i reported him to the police to protect other peoples children so why didnt they?

Our daughter was raped at 16 and had a period of terrible shame, she would not go out, she hated herself and was far away from us. If you can keep on telling her how much she is loved by you no matter what she thinks about herself, it may help her to adjust her viewpoint. Many victims do not want to talk about what they have gone through, that should be respected but she needs to find a way to let her grief, anger out in a constructive way. Bulimia and self hurting only compound the problem. She is hurting herself (and you) and not the person who did this to her. She needs to take back her life, to find a way to not be the victim anymore. This may need specialist help....try and ring some of the help lines so you can get some insight into what you can do. Take up boxing or a self defense sport together, it gets a lot of aggression out!
The elder situation is actually secondary to your helping your daughter..........they are the ones who are guilty to allow this to go on. Still that does not help your daughter. Try to give her life stories of ones who have overcome their terrible backgrounds, reassure her that she is not measured by what was done to her. She needs to hear again and again that it was not her fault.
Our daughter came through but with scars on her soul. We love her so much and we are so proud of her. She is out of the jws now and we are so relieved.

Could You Live Without God?
by serotonin_wraith ini have said before in past posts - i think a belief in a god is because of two bad reasons.. 1. ignorance (not always deliberate at all) of certain facts.
the universe and life on earth was not designed.. 2. wanting to believe in a god.. so, to focus on the second, i can see why people would want there to be a god.. you see dead loved ones again, you live forever, you have a purpose set out for you, you feel there's always a being with you through even your most difficult times.
for those who believe in a god, could you live without one?

When we humans learn to overcome the fear of death we are a long way to finding a way to live without religion. Religion tries to define God (put him in a box) so that we can understand him. I feel that if there is something, that is so incredibly powerful and complicated, there is just no way that we can bring him/her/it down to our level of understanding. It is way beyond our comprehension. I can understand animists that worship the nature, sun whatever. It makes sense.....its what we depend upon to survive. I think though that what ever gets you through this life is fine as long as it does not restrict your human curiosity, love for all people and personal integrity. I am without God at the moment and taking time out.

Watchtower Question from readers= Slams hunting??? Why???
by Witness 007 ineven though the bible does not condemn hunting watch them push their personal opinion and trun it into watchtower law.. watchtower dec 1 2007 p.31 "how should christians view hunting?
} "the bible does not condemn hunting or fishing.." {great leave it there..no need to push personal thoughts on brothers, right?
} ".....the apostles who were fisherman were likely gratified by a good catch.

Now all those little mmmmoooooo cows that get slaughtered to make dindins for our brothers at bethel...how does that happen? A stun gun?
Lasso? Do they line up nice waiting to be theocratically executed? If they were all vegans in there maybe I would have a bit more respect.
Do not waste any time.....we were told even looking through coupon adverts was a waste of time....I anwsered up on that point.. the brother had obviously never been poor or a housewife trying to make ends meet.
I again believe that the folks do what they want and keep their mouths shut if they have any sense.

Headship Rules?
by ThomasCovenant inscenario: .
if two elders were to call and ask to speak to my wife with regard to meeting attendance etc, is there anything in the society's literature that i could use to show that they would have to approach me as the 'head of the household' first and and get my permission?.
thomas covenant.

You cant stop her speaking to the elders alone....she has her own will you know. But after saying that you could express your view as the bibilical head of the household (´no matter if you are a brother, inactive or df´d) that you would like to be present for any such meeting that involved your family.
They may just go around you anyway, but at least you have made your views known.

Wilderbeerman.....great name when you think of what you wrote. He didnt take the ban on alcohol seriously then? No alcohol with meals before a meeting? NO alcohol in service? My husband was a pioneer and he was with the Co and they got invited into a nurse who offered them a drink...good little hubby said no...the Co said he would like a sherry!!!!!!!!!! haha.

Yep Loubell, but I guess the fun went out of it when big A didnt come in 75. We loved that brother and he made the meetings so tolerable. One sketch we had was to show how not to dress for the service. We had a cute chubby pioneer sister with her skirt hiked up wiggling through the aisle at the hall. We were asked what was wrong with her.....ohh the comments, not a dry eye left we were in stitches.
I think it was the humour that kept me there, people needed something everything else was just so doom and gloom.
